To add depth to the paper used for the fan, the color is applied three times with a brush, and after drying, three coats of tannin extracted from persimmons are applied. This process gives the paper durability and a unique luster, and is said to also have antibacterial and insect-repellent properties.
Because they are handmade, the luster and color will vary slightly from piece to piece. Another feature is that the luster increases over time, changing beautifully.
